The other day I was in the printmaking studio, mixing colours for my next print. I was indirectly complaining about the lack of colour selections when B said, Just add some green”.
Duh. Of course! I knew this, but I had forgotten. We were taught in art school to add a colour’s complementary instead of always adding black to darken it. As another art teacher puts it, “Oilers, Easter, Christmas”, meaning, blue+ orange, yellow+purple, red+green.
So I did that. The winner was purple and yellow, mixed with burnt sienna and copper, made the nicest skin colour.
2) Today’s winner
Josonja gel retarder
I mixed in a small amount of this drying retarder to the ink and I was able to pull about 5-7 prints without having to wash and start over again. Thank you to the inventor!
